Participate in "rare fruit tree planting" to help fulfil your Corporate Social Responsibility by:
• Conserving our Rare & Indigenous Fruit Trees
• Improving the Livelihood of Rural Communities
• Complementing our National Genebank System
• Networking, a participato
What is the Issue?
• Depletion of the biodiversity of our plant genetic resources due to urban developments, forest conversion, etc. Biodiversity may hold the answer to our future needs in nutrition and health.
• In the past, many types of fruit trees were planted by the communities, in the vicinity of their homes
• However, commercial interest is promoting the planting of fruit trees that have only commercial value.
• Thus, fruit trees with no commercial value are being relegated to being conserved in arboretum ("plant zoo") and forest stands, making them rare with increasing likelihood for extinction in the future.
Objective of CPCNet
• To engage Malaysians to participate as part of an online network in the conservation of the biodiversity of rare Malaysian fruit trees by "making them common" through their adoption
Who We Are?
• The Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia (ENSEARCH) is a non-profit, non-governmental association of organizations, professionals, students and people with interest in learning and promoting effective ways to manage the impacts of human activities on the environment.
CPCNet is jointly promoted by:
• Bioversity International- an international research organization that promotes the sustainable development for use and conservation of genetic resources including tropical fruit tree crops, forest genetic resources and other crops.
• The Malaysian Agricultural and Development Institute (MARDI)- under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry involved in conducting research in agriculture, food and agro-based industry.
How to participate?
The Project is wholly supported by sponsorship of participating individuals, entities, companies or organizations who wish to either undertake planting of such rare fruit trees within their premises or to sponsor others who wish to offer their premises for planting them. You may support CPCNet by being:
• A tree sponsor; or
