A Strategy and Programme for DANCED Support to Environmental NGOs in Malaysia

The Strategy and Programme for DANIDA support to Environmental NGOs Malaysian (MENGO) was implemented to support the implementation of the Malaysian-Danish Programme for Environmental Assistance. The project officially started on 15 November 2001.

The Development objective of the programme is:

  • "To contribute to the strengthening of the MENGOs and facilitate their impact on the decision making process at all levels in Malaysian society."

The Immediate objective of the programme is:

  • "To create decision-making and capacity strengthening mechanisms which will maximise the environmental policy impacts and ensure participatory cost effective and efficient identification, preparation and implementation of appropriate MENGO projects."

In order to achieve its objectives, the MENGO Coordinating Committee (MCC) and a MENGO Support Unit (MSU) was developed as part of the project's operational structure.

To date, the MCC has been established for two terms. The 7-members of the MCC are elected annually by the MENGOs in May each year. The MSU office has been set up as the coordinating unit of the project and is housed in a host organization, ENSEARCH in Petaling Jaya. It is staffed with one full time project facilitator and a fulltime office administrator.
