The project covers the Krokong and Jagoi area in Bau, Kuching Division which is made up of 13 and 7 Dayak Bidayuh villages respectively. With its proximity to Kuching and the range of its natural resources, Krokong and Jagoi are areas for tourism, presenting the community with much opportunity but also making the community vulnerable to encroachment from private developers. The project aims at assisting local communities in managing and rehabilitating their natural environment, specifically, its biodiversity, by providing alternate sustainable forms of income generation through community-based eco-tourism. This is done by raising widespread awareness on conservation and sustainable management of natural resources and by strengthening the ties and cooperation between the Krokong and Jagoi communities. |
