This project is implemented in the ancestral land of Kampung Chang Sungai Gepai in the southern Perak. The project will cater to the Orang Asli of Semai ethnic. There are 130 families living in this village with approximately 600 populations. The community has been struggling to maintain the forest as their watershed to supply them the fresh water for daily use. However, continued threat from outside development is threatening the conservation of this important forest area. The watersheds are also the source of important non-timber forest products (NTFP) such as herbs, and raw materials for craft making and other indigenous products. This project aims to protect the community watersheds and promotes sustainable use of natural resource at the same time, hopefully, improve the socio economic condition of the community in the project area through awareness programs and selling of the handicrafts. |
