Community Based Watershed Conservation and Promotion of Biodiversity Protection through Enrichment Planting and Sustainable Use in Northern Region of Sabah by TONIBUNG

This project involves 3 smaller community projects which are run by different Indigenous Peoples Organisations (IPOs). The IPOs and their project areas are as follows :-

PR Monungkus in Kg. Tinangol, Kudat.
KBKG of Kg. Gana in Kota Marudu.
PR Komokitukod in Liu, Pitas.

	The 3 communities faced the problems of degraded natural resources of unsustainable logging practice in the past. This has posed threat to their watershed to supply them the fresh water for daily use. These watersheds are also sources of important non-timber forest products (NTFP) such as herbs, wild honey and raw materials for craft making. This project aims to protect the community watersheds and promotes sustainable use of natural resource at the same time improve the socio economic condition of the communities within the project area through awareness programs and sustainable enterprises. This project also enhances the good cooperation with Sabah Forestry Department in the aspect of community forestry that has been established during the EC UNDP PTF project.
